The Georgia Cotton Commission’s (GCC) annual mid-year meeting is a little more than a month away. Registration is ongoing for the event, scheduled for Wednesday, July 23 at the Nesmith-Lane Conference Center in Statesboro, Georgia.

Taylor Sills, executive director of the Georgia Cotton Commission, discussed the significance of this year’s event.

“The mid-year meeting is an important new program for us. This will be the third year we’ve done it. We do it over in Statesboro; we want to mix up where we’re meeting across the state. We obviously do our annual meeting in Tifton in January,” Sills said. “The mid-year meeting offers producers and others that are interested in the industry a unique opportunity to get a compressed update on what’s going on across the industry; production wise, policy wise, promotion wise.

“This year is an interesting year. Cotton acres are way down. There’s a lot of frustration across the countryside. I get it. The industry is still here pushing for positive change in all of these areas. We’ve built our program for the meeting to highlight that.”

The meeting is held in conjunction with the University of Georgia (UGA) Pre-Harvest Workshop conducted by members of the UGA Research and Extension Cotton Team. The workshop will feature sessions where attendees will receive an update on the 2025 crop and defoliation considerations, along with talks centered on late-season irrigation and pest management strategies.

The Georgia Quality Cotton Awards for the 2025 crop will be presented during the lunch program. There is no charge to attend. Pre-registration is requested to help with meal plans. Register online at www.georgiacottoncommission.org.
