The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) weekly crop report shows that as of this past Sunday, cotton and peanut harvest is nearing the end in most states. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey has his last look at the 2024 cotton crop.
And Rippey has a final report on the peanut harvest.
The USDA report notes this is how the cotton and peanut harvests were progressing across the Southeast as of this past Sunday:
In Alabama, cotton harvested was 89 percent, which compares to 90 percent last year with the 5-year average being 87 percent. Peanuts harvested were 94 percent, which compares to 95 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 97 percent.
In Florida, cotton harvested was 72 percent, which compares to 79 percent last year and the 5-year average is 72 percent. Peanuts harvested were 100 percent, which compares to 98 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 99 percent.
In Georgia, cotton harvested was 77 percent, which compares to 75 percent last year while the 5-year average is 78 percent. Peanuts harvested were 92 percent, which compares to 96 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 96 percent.
