American Agriculture History Minute: Official Blue Jacket Adopted for FFA

Dan American Agriculture History Minute, Education, This Land of Ours

I’m Mark Oppold with an American Agriculture History Minute.

The first FFA national convention was held in Kansas City in 1928. Kansas City would, by the way, host the FFA convention for the next 70 years. In 1933, a group of FFA members from Fredericktown, Ohio, arrived at the convention wearing crisp blue corduroy jackets with the FFA emblem on the back.

Well, teenagers being teenagers knew a good thing when they saw it, and official delegates to the 1933 convention adopted that jacket as the official dress. Of course, those blue jackets are still proudly worn today, and estimated over 50,000 new jackets are made each year.

That’s today’s American Agriculture History Minute. I’m Mark Oppold. Thanks for reading. I’ll see you next time.
