The Georgia Cotton Commission and Georgia Peanut Commission remind growers and industry experts that the annual University of Georgia (UGA) Cotton and Peanut Research Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Tifton, Georgia.

The commissions, along with the UGA Extension Cotton and Peanut Teams, are sponsoring the field day. The field day will start at 8 a.m. at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center and visit the RDC Pivot and UGA Lang Farm. UGA specialists, like Camp Hand, UGA Extension cotton agronomist, will provide research updates pertaining to both row crops.

“We do it every year, and it’s a joint effort. In a lot of these field days like the one in Plains, had a bunch of industry sponsors. This one’s kind of unique. It is only sponsored by the Peanut and Cotton Commissions,” Hand said. “It’s a good collaborative effort between those two groups and the cotton team and the peanut team to get together and show what these grower dollars are going towards. If growers have questions about their checkoff dollars and where they’re going, this is a good opportunity as any to see the work that is being funded by those dollars and their return on investment.”

Scott Monfort, University of Georgia Extension peanut agronomist, added, “It’s a joint field tour, field stop for cotton and peanuts. It’s a chance for our growers to come out and see some of the research that’s being conducted on the experiment station, from breeding all the way through applied pest management and agronomics.”

The field day is a free event, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP to Mallory Marchant at mallory.marchant@uga.edu or calling 229-386-3366 to provide an accurate count for lunch.
