There’s a new partnership for early detection of animal diseases. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
It’s a new partnership among the nation’s animal health and biodefense facilities to improve early detection of emerging animal diseases. This is Christy Loiacano, coordinator of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN), with the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
“We are going to identify five scientists and place them in five of our NAHLN laboratories around the country with the intent of them to take their region, look at the threats both nationally and internationally,” said Christy Loiacano, coordinator of the National Animal Health Laboratory network, with the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. “Do risk assessments and then make sure that the laboratories that are NAHLN laboratories within their region have the capability to respond to those threats.”
Chosen NAHLN facilities will partner with the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, NBADF.
“We’re partnering with NBADF and their expertise in foreign animal disease diagnostics and utilizing what NAHLN can provide in that partnership,” Loiacano said.
