The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced an expansion of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). This is part of a larger effort to reach a greater share of farming operations and improve USDA pandemic assistance. Talking to farm broadcasters Wednesday afternoon, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack outlined the overall goal of the new USDA Pandemic Assistance for Producers package.
He noted agricultural sectors that were not helped by previous Covid-19 assistance packages will get help under this new USDA initiative. And according to Vilsack, this includes extra assistance for cattle producers.
Vilsack said the rules have already been written, and there is administrative work that needs to be done, but they are in a position to make payments very soon, sometime in the month of April.
