Growing Family Farms
Yes, it is a fact that American farms are getting larger. It doesn’t mean that they are all corporate owned though. The largest part of U.S. agriculture is still the family owned farm. That is where most of the growth is.
Family owned farms are much more like the 2,000 acres. Not like the 200 to 300 acres farms of the past. This is where the growth of agriculture really is. As recently as 2012, 36 percent of all agriculture was farms with 2,000 acres. With all that in mind, what we call large farms are also getting bigger. Then there are the corporations that operate more than one farm. Some they own. Some they rent or lease.
No matter the size or how many acres. The objective is the same. Produce more food. More food includes meat as well as vegetables.
