Dan Fruits, Specialty Crops, This Land of Ours

nationalToday, you get to celebrate America’s favorite fruit. Cathy Isom lets you know why you’ll want some fresh strawberries and whip cream today. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.

Celebrating National Strawberries and Cream Day

Today is National Strawberries and Cream Day. So if you don’t have them already, you may want to head to your local farmer’s market or grocery and get some fresh strawberries and whipped cream. You could also make your own whipped cream. Strawberries are the perfect, refreshing, light snack on a beautiful warm day!

Strawberries are a very healthy snack as they are low-fat, low in calories and an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, and potassium.

The simple combination of fresh sliced strawberries and homemade whipped cream has been a popular dish for centuries. In fact, in medieval England it was customary for newlyweds to enjoy strawberries and soured cream for their wedding breakfast.
