Planting of the nation’s cotton crop is nearing completion. As of this past Sunday, 92 percent of the crop was in the ground. And according to USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey, a sizeable percentage of the crop looks good at this time.
In Alabama, 97 percent of the cotton crop has been planted as of this past Sunday, which compares to 93 percent this time last year. The 5-year average is 95 percent.
In Alabama, 89 percent of the peanut crop has been planted, which compares to 93 percent this time last year, while the 5-year average is 90 percent.
In Florida, 89 percent of the cotton crop has been planted as of this past Sunday, which compares to 83 percent the week before.
In Florida, 94 percent of the peanut crop has been planted, which compares to 96 percent this time last year, while the 5-year average is 93 percent.
In Georgia, 94 percent of the cotton crop has been planted as of this past Sunday, which compares to 92 percent this time last year. The 5-year average is 93 percent.
