Safely Eating Easter Eggs

Dan Poultry, This Land of Ours

Easter eggs
Are those colored Easter eggs safe to eat after they’ve been hiding in the yard? Cathy Isom answers this question and more coming up on This Land of Ours.

As we’ve all learned by now, eggs shouldn’t be left out of the fridge for longer than two hours.

Even though you’ve cooked the food it can still become contaminated.

that’s because the shells of the cooked eggs are more porous and susceptible to bacteria, says USDA Food Safety Expert Marianne Gravely.

So when it comes to Easter egg hunts… are the colored eggs we’ve carefully hidden in the yard safe to eat if its been less than two hours?

We do not recommend eating those because you’ve put them in the grass, in the dirt, you can’t be sure that egg is going to be clean and safe.

She advises keeping the colored eggs inside for guests to enjoy for eating. For the Easter Egg hunts hide plastic eggs, instead.
