Every year on the evening of December 31st we say goodbye to the last year and ring in the new year at midnight with a toast and a sip of sparkling wine. So, it’s probably no coincidence that New Year’s Eve is also National Champagne Day. And, it could be another record breaking year for sales of the bubbly in the United States. Last year, according to the Wine Institute champagne sales were up ten-percent from the year before. Every year for the past six years, sparkling wine sales have seen a steady increase. The price for one bottle, depending on the label can range anywhere from ten dollars a bottle on up to 400 or more. When it comes to our diet, a four ounce glass is about 90 calories, so its the better choice if watching your calories and carbs. And a study out of University of Reading found that drinking one to three glasses of champagne per week can boost brain health.
