More and more public schools are adding agriculture subjects to their curriculum. Why not? One African country is now requiring that agriculture classes be taught. When you look at the reasons Kenya is doing so, it makes sense anywhere. Look at it this way. Math and related subjects are required from first grade through college. Studies show it is the least used subject in study careers in an entire education. So, what is wrong with educating our youth about the realities of food production? It is something that is a part of life forever. Officials in Kenya see teaching agriculture as a sure way of increasing food production. Not necessary here like it is there, but, what could it hurt? Which is more important: learning the multiplication tables or eating?
That’s Agri View for today, I’m Everett Griner.
