Although citrus black spot is apparently confined to the Southwest Florida citrus region, it has implications for the whole Florida citrus industry. Those implications were addressed at a black spot program assessment meeting Thursday in Lake Alfred. In the first report, citrus grower and harvester Paul Meador discusses the cost of managing black spot in his grove, as well as the costs and other concerns related to tarping fruit trailers from black spot quarantine areas. In the second report, Greg Carlton with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides an update on black spot in Southwest Florida and summarizes issues addressed at Thursday’s meeting.
