Florida Citrus Execs Discuss Mechanical Harvesting
Jim Snively and Dave Crumbly were among the 150-plus attending a recent mechanical harvesting symposium in Lake Alfred. Snively, vice president of grove operations at Southern Gardens Citrus, tells when and why his company will resume mechanical harvesting and discusses mechanical harvesting changes he thinks will come. Crumbly, a Florida’s Natural Growers vice president, discusses an abscission agent that will hopefully aid mechanical harvesting and his concerns about the condition of mechanically harvested fruit loads. Citrus Industry Will Get $2 Million for Research
Florida Citrus Mutual CEO Mike Sparks reported that Governor Rick Scott signed the $70 billion state budget earlier this week and did not veto the $2 million appropriation for citrus research. Consequently, this money will go straight to the Citrus Research and Development Foundation to supplement grower box tax dollars. Read more.
