
Several Florida citrus growers were among a crowd at a recent Lake Alfred workshop on the potential for olive production in Florida. Speaker Louise Ferguson, an extension specialist with the University of California-Davis, in the first reports says the climate in Florida’s citrus region presents obstacles to olive production.
In the second report, she suggests that those who want to try olives start with small field trials of several cultivars, but agrees that olive production will be a stretch for most citrus growers.
