OJ Imports Reportedly Halted Due to Fungicide Finding
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reportedly halted OJ imports into the U.S. after a juice company reported it found low levels of the fungicide carbendazim in its and competitors’ OJ. See FDA Halts Orange Juice Imports to Test for Pesticide and Coke Says It Found Fungicide in Orange Juice. Carbendazim is used in Brazil but is not authorized for use in the United States. FDA will begin testing all OJ imports for carbendazim, and any shipment with 10 parts per billion or more will be denied entry. Florida Citrus Crop Forecast Shows Changes
The USDA Citrus Crop Forecast released Jan. 12 revealed changes in the Florida citrus crop numbers. The Florida all orange forecast, at 147 million boxes (6.62 million tons), is down 2 percent from the December forecast but up 5 percent from last season’s final utilization.
