Florida Citrus Mutual Officials Upbeat in Wake of Gov. Scott’s Visit
Following Gov. Rick Scott’s visit to Florida Citrus Mutual’s crop forecast breakfast last week, Mutual officials feel the governor better understands their major concerns. Mutual President Vic Story says the governor was told how important citrus is to Florida, and says he believes the industry’s relationship with Scott has improved. Mutual CEO Mike Sparks talks about discussions he, Story and the governor had about HLB, the orange juice tariff and citrus jobs. Listen to the reports.

CHMAs Help Citrus Growers Battle HLB; Could Have Other Uses
Greg Carlton, chief of the Division of Plant Industry’s Bureau of Pest Eradication and Control, provides an update on the Citrus Health Management Areas (CHMAs) that let citrus growers cooperatively battle HLB-spreading psyllids. He says CHMAs could provide the framework for battling future industry pests and diseases as well. Hear the details.
