Montgomery, AL — Commissioner John McMillan of the Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries today released the following statement upon Congress’s ratification of Free Trade Agreements with Colombia, South Korea and Panama.

“Today, the U.S. Congress did more to create jobs for Americans – and Alabamians – with ratification of the Free Trade Agreements with three important trading partners: South Korea, Colombia and Panama.

“Now, we in Alabama can move forward with plans to develop relationships with those nations that will lead to substantial exports of Alabama agriculture products and the creation of thousands of good jobs.

“Alabama farmers and agribusinesses have looked forward to this day when the products and commodities they produce will be able to compete on a level playing field where our quality and reliability will win out. We offer our sincere thanks to everyone who helped to make these agreements a reality.

“I especially want to thank the Alabama congressional delegation who overwhelmingly supported passage of these trade agreements that received bipartisan support from both houses of Congress.”
