Auburn, Ala, Aug. 23, 2011 – Pam Mason, Alabama Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) District Conservationist (DC) for Elmore, Tallapoosa, and Coosa Counties, was recognized at the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet as the 2011 Soil Conservationist of the Year. Pam was honored along with other conservation leaders on August 5, 2011, at the Marriott Legends in Prattville, Alabama.
The Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards recognize those who promote leadership by example and in turn increase conservation of our natural resources including our wildlife, forests, soils, water and air.
“This is one of the most prestigious conservation honors in the state of Alabama, said Dr. William Puckett, Alabama NRCS State Conservationist. “Pam is an outstanding employee and we are pleased that she has been recognized for her conservation achievements.”
Ms. Mason has devoted 27 years to promoting natural resource conservation in Alabama. For the past 17 years, she has served as the DC in Wetumpka and recently accepted the leadership for Tallapoosa and Coosa Counties also.
Pam enjoys working with landowners. She provides advice and guidance that not only helps protect Alabama’s valuable soil resources, but also protects water quality and improves land productivity.
Pam cares for the land and people. She shares her passion with youth and instills in them the importance of conserving natural resources. She assists with the Envirothon (a high school environmental education competition), the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Land Judging team, water festivals, Girl Scouts, field days, and field trips.
