Topic of ‘nighttime OJ’ meeting is weed control

TAVARES — The Lake County Extension Office is hosting an informational meeting about weed control in citrus on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.
“Central Florida citrus growers responded in a study we conducted in 2007 that weed control was the second most important topic,” said Ryan Atwood, Citrus Agent for the Lake County Extension Office. “To address this, we are holding a ‘Nighttime OJ’ meeting on weed control.”
The speaker at the meeting will be Dr. Megh Singh from the University of Florida Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, Fla. Singh has more than 20 years of working with weed control in citrus.
As part of the meeting, a barbecue dinner will provided courtesy of Helena and Triangle chemical companies. Reservations are required for the meeting and must be received by Friday, Feb. 15. To make a reservation, visit the Lake County Agricultural Center or call Maggie Jarrell at (352) 343-4101.
