FFAA Seeks Student Applications for $2,000 Scholarships

Applications are now being accepted from qualified students at the University of Florida, Florida Southern College and Florida A&M University for $2,000 scholarships sponsored by the Florida Fertilizer & Agrichemical Association. The scholarships are designed to promote the study of agriculture in higher education and to encourage academic excellence among students pursuing agriculture studies.

“We support these students in hopes they’ll use their talents to improve Florida agriculture through research or employment in the Florida agribusiness industry,” said Charles Lanfier, chairman of the FFAA Scholarship Fund Inc.’s board of directors and Brandt Consolidated’s Central and South Florida sales manager. “It’s one way we invest in the future success of Florida agriculture.”

Eligibility requirements and details include:
• Students enrolled at the junior, senior or graduate level studying agriculture or a closely related field at FAMU, FSC or UF.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
• Student must carry a full course load the semester immediately following fall semester. Scholarships will be awarded for the semester beginning in January.
• Scholarship check will be made payable to Florida school and student.
• The application deadline is Oct. 15, 2011.

Qualified students can apply online at http://www.ffaa.org/scholarship.html. Previous recipients who still meet the qualification criteria are welcome to reapply. Recipients are invited to attend FFAA’s Winter Business Meeting to receive plaques and industry recognition of their achievements (their check will already have been received).
