Puckett Named AL State Conservationist

Bill PuckettAuburn, Ala. – Dr. William E. Puckett has been named the State Conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Alabama. He succeeds Gary Kobylski who retired April 3.

As a career conservationist, Dr. Puckett has extensive experience working with NRCS at the local, state, regional, and national levels. He currently serves as the Deputy Chief for Science and Technology in Washington, D. C.


Dr. Puckett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy and a Master of Science degree in soil physics and mineralogy from Auburn University. He received a doctorate in soil genesis and
classification from the University of Florida.

He will be the seventh State Conservationist to serve Alabama since the 1935 creation of the Soil Conservation Service, now called NRCS. Dr. Puckett will begin serving as State Conservationist on April 13
