The Florida Beef Council continues its mission to support beef demand and quality through outreach, education, and training events. We sat down with DM Maples of the Florida Beef Council to learn more about a recent initiative that highlights beef’s role in healthy diets and upcoming efforts to improve production standards.

We were there over Labor Day. It’s actually the Florida chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, which is a pretty large and influential in terms of all of the chapters. And we were joined by registered dietitian Jamie Lee McIntyre to talk about the topic of infant, pediatric and adolescent nutrition.

At the event, the council aimed to provide resources and listen to the needs of healthcare providers.

And in addition to providing resources, we really asked how best can we support them in their offices and exam rooms? And I’m telling you, it was encouraging to hear how many already recommended diets that do include beef as a building block food.

Recognizing the trust that families place in physicians, the Florida Beef Council is working to ensure beef remains part of the nutritional conversation.

And physicians really are some of the most trusted influencers for families. And so when they talk about nutrition, parents listen, and we want beef to be part of that conversation. So it was encouraging to know that beef is recognized as a building block, and we got some great takeaways out of it.

In addition to nutrition outreach, the Florida Beef Council is focusing on beef quality assurance with a new training event.

The Florida Beef Council is also working to support beef quality through beef quality assurance trainings. We’ll hold one in Volusia County in Deland, particularly at the Volusia County Extension Office on Saturday, September 27th at 10 a.m. led by Dr. Thrift. Just encouraging producers of all ages, and we’re talking show kids too, to come over.

We’d love to have those who need their renewal or maybe don’t have it at all to join us. And they can reach out to the Volusia County Extension Office for all the details.
