The Georgia Cotton Commission (GCC) annual meeting isn’t all about educating and informing the state’s cotton producers about the latest trends impacting the industry.
An important part of the meeting’s agenda is recognizing those who have helped make the cotton industry as successful and sustainable as possible.
GCC Executive Director Taylor Sills discussed the awards part of the luncheon during the meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the University of Georgia (UGA) Tifton Campus Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia.
“We’re going to give out some awards. We recognize county agents for their work for cotton producers every year. For the third year we’re going to present our Georgia Cotton Commission Trustees award to people who have really dedicated their lives to the cotton industry in Georgia and across the country,” Sills said. “I’m not going to divulge who those winners are, but they’re two very deserving people who have really done tremendous work for cotton producers and the cotton industry across the state for over a generation.”
The meeting is free and is slated to start at 8 a.m. It will feature UGA Cotton Production Workshops that will be held throughout the day, focusing on cotton agronomics, physiology, economics, irrigation, precision agriculture technologies, entomology, plant pathology and soil fertility.
