The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) weekly crop report shows that as of this past Sunday, cotton and peanut harvest has ended in some states. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey runs through the updated cotton numbers.
And Rippey has a peanut harvest update.
The USDA report notes this is how the cotton and peanut harvests were progressing across the Southeast as of this past Sunday:
In Alabama, cotton harvested was 83 percent, which compares to 86 percent last year with the 5-year average being 80 percent. Peanuts harvested were 88 percent, which compares to 93 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 93 percent.
In Florida, cotton harvested was 58 percent, which compares to 71 percent last year and the 5-year average is 59 percent. Peanuts harvested were 99 percent, which compares to 97 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 98 percent.
In Georgia, cotton harvested was 69 percent, which compares to 64 percent last year while the 5-year average is 68 percent. Peanuts harvested were 85 percent, which compares to 91 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 92 percent.
