Cattle producers are invited to attend the University of Florida/IFAS 2024 Beef & Forage Field Day, at the North Florida Research and Education Center (NFREC) Beef Cattle Unit near Marianna, FL. on Thursday, October 24, 2024. The event will begin with a trade show, coffee, and registration at 8:00 AM Central Time, then field tours will start at 9:00 AM and conclude with a grilled steak lunch.
The registration fee for this event is $10 per person, payable at the event via cash or check, and includes lunch and the printed proceedings that provide additional information from each of the field demonstrations.
The Panhandle Ag Extension Team has developed a dynamic agenda of practical management options for cow-calf producers in the Tri-State Region. Participants will ride wagons around the station to see six field demonstrations. This tour will showcase the latest research and extension projects developed at the University of Florida-NFREC and will provide an opportunity for networking and camaraderie.
The Field Day Tour agenda includes:
- Year-round grazing systems for North Florida – Jose Dubeux and Liza Garcia
- Reproductive efficiency in bulls – Angela Gonella and Kalyn Waters
- Hay feeding and waste: what is new? – Doug Mayo and David Thomas
- Preparing for winter feeding: what are my options? – Nicolas Dilorenzo and Nick Simmons
- Legumes for cool season and beyond – Cheryl Mackowiak and Cleber de Souza
- Weed management in perennial pastures – Mark Mauldin
The NFREC Beef Unit, it is located one mile west of Greenwood, FL. at 4925 Highway 162, Marianna, FL 32446. Look for the UF/IFAS sign on the south side of Highway 162. Go through the cattle guard at the entrance gate and immediately turn left, then follow the unpaved road to the blue metal bull sale barn that can be easily seen from the entrance.
