The 2024 Hurricane Season officially kicks off today, June 1, and farmers, ranchers and agricultural businesses across the Southeast are being reminded to make plans and prepare for the season. As many of us have heard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has predicted an above-normal forecast. This includes an expected range of 17 to 25 named storms, with 8 to 13 potentially becoming hurricanes, and 4 to 7 of those possibly being major hurricanes. Forecasters have a 70% confidence in these ranges.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) knows that weather catastrophes can significantly impact businesses, from short-term power outages to the need for rebuilding after a hurricane. And the SBA offers various programs to assist with recovery after a natural disaster. This includes disaster loans to cover losses not fully covered by insurance or other sources.
