Cotton, Peanut Planting and Condition Update

Cotton planting is picking up across the belt, and USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey has the good news on cotton planting and condition

Rippey also has an update on peanut planting and condition.

According to the USDA National Agricultural Statics Service (NASS), this is where cotton and peanut planting progress across the Southeast stood as of this past Sunday:

In Alabama cotton planted was 75 percent, which compares to 76 percent at this time last year, while the 5-year average is 81 percent. Peanut planting was at 61 percent, which compares to 58 percent last year and the 5-year average is 72 percent.

In Florida cotton planted was at 62 percent. Last year at this time it was at 69 percent while the 5-year average is 66 percent. Peanut planting was at 79 percent, which compares to 76 percent last year and the 5-year average is 84 percent.

In Georgia cotton planted was at 63 percent. Last year at this time it was also at 63 percent while the 5-year average is 67 percent. Peanut planting was at 63 percent, which compares to 73 percent last year and the 5-year average is 75 percent.
