The Georgia Cotton Commission (GCC) reminds producers and industry leaders that the annual cotton/peanut research field day is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Tifton, Georgia.

The event is co-sponsored by the Georgia Cotton Commission, Georgia Peanut Commission and University of Georgia Extension Cotton and Peanut Teams.

Taylor Sills, executive director of the GCC, talks about why this event is important for cotton producers to attend.

“We work with the Georgia Peanut Commission to do this field day and it’s a great opportunity for cotton and peanut producers, which I know are mostly the same group of people, to come see what’s being done, research and cutting-edge stuff is being done on their behalf. It’s also a good opportunity to hear out the Extension specialists about considerations for finishing out this year,” Sills said.

The field day will begin at 8 a.m. at the University of Georgia (UGA) Tifton Campus Conference Center in the north parking lot. Attendees will visit the RDC Pivot field and the UGA Lang Farm to tour research trails and hear from various speakers. A lunch and short program will conclude the day.

The tour’s purpose is to highlight current research, which is funded by the respective commissions, in plot-side presentations by the researchers. The sponsors’ goal is to provide an educational environment for cotton and peanut farmers and give them the opportunity to pose questions directly to the researchers and to express opinions and concerns pertinent to the production of their crops.

The field day is a free event, but attendees are asked to RSVP to Ashley Golden at ashley.golden@uga.edu or calling 229-386-3366 to provide an accurate count for lunch. To view an agenda, CLICK HERE or visit www.georgiacottoncommission.org or www.gapeanuts.com.
