Florida’s dry conditions continue to persist throughout most of the state, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
An extreme drought remains along the west coast of the state, starting as far north as Levy County and stretching as far south as Hillsborough and Manatee counties. A severe drought persists along the west coast as well, starting in Levy County and stretching southward to Charlotte County. A moderate drought starts as far north as Lafayette and Gilchrist counties and stretching southward to Collier County.
Abnormally dry conditions are expanding across the southwest area of Georgia. The dry area starts as far south as Mitchell and Colquitt counties, expands eastward to Telfair and Jeff Davis counties and then northward to Taylor and Crawford counties and westward to Quitman and Stewart counties along the Georgia-Alabama state line.
Alabama’s driest conditions are concentrated to the northern part of the state. Abnormally dry conditions are included in Colbert, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan, Madison, Marshall and Jackson counties. Parts of the eastern area of South Carolina are abnormally dry. It includes Colleton, Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Orangeburg, Clarendon, Williamsburg and Georgetown counties. North Carolina is completely drought free.
