The Georgia Peanut Commission (GPC) reminds growers and industry leaders that it is just days away from hosting its annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show. The event is slated for Thursday, Jan. 19, at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia.
It will start at 8 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m.
Rodney Dawson, chairman of the Farm Show, discussed what attendees can expect from this year’s event.
“This is just a great opportunity for farmers to help their bottom line and see all of the exhibitors and hear the latest from the researchers,” Dawson said. “It’s an opportunity that day to talk to over 100 exhibitors in morning and afternoon sessions. It’s a great opportunity for the farmer to take a few hours off that day and see the latest changes from last year.
“There will be seed seminars and production seminars. This past year tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) was so bad, and they will be emphasizing tomato spotted wilt research.”
The University of Georgia Peanut Team will update growers on TSWV during the peanut production seminar from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Specialists will help producers reduce the risk of the virus for this upcoming season.
An industry seed seminar will be held from 10:35 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. Farmers can learn about available peanut varieties for 2023 and beyond.
There will also be a free luncheon at noon for all those in attendance. Kelley Manufacturing Co. is also providing the grand door prize for the event, the use of a new peanut combine for the 2023 season and $5,000 cash money.
