According to the weekly Crop Progress Report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), this past week took another bite out of cotton condition ratings. Gary Crawford has the details.

In Alabama, cotton squaring is at 96 percent, which compares to 97 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 95 percent. Cotton setting bolls is 89 percent, which is well ahead of last year’s 74 percent and the 5-year average of 79 percent. Peanuts pegging are at 90 percent. That compares to 91 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 94 percent.
In Florida, cotton squaring is at 98 percent, which compares to 96 percent last year while the 5-year average is 95 percent. Cotton setting bolls is at 77 percent. Last year at this time it was only at 64 percent while the 5-year average is 77 percent. Peanut pegging are at 98 percent, which compares to 95 percent last year and the 5-year average is 94 percent.
In Georgia, cotton squaring is 97 percent, which compares to 97 percent last year while the 5-year average is 97 percent. Cotton setting bolls is at 76 percent. Last year at this time it was at 73 percent while the 5-year average is 79 percent. Cotton bolls opening are at 2 percent. That compares to 1 percent last year while the 5-year average is 2 percent.
