Recent rains across some areas of the cotton belt has really helped with the overall condition rating of the nation’s crop. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says it is in better shape than it was a year ago at this time.
And Rippey takes a look at peanut planting and condition.
In Alabama, cotton planted is 91 percent. Last year at this time it was at 94 percent while the 5-year average is 92 percent. Peanuts planted in Alabama were at 83 percent. That compares to 91 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 87 percent.
In Florida, cotton planted is 91 percent. That compares to 68 percent last year while the 5-year average is 80 percent. Peanut planting, as of this past Sunday, was at 95 percent, which compares to 94 percent last year and the 5-year average is 93 percent.
In Georgia, cotton planted is 86 percent. That compares to 87 percent last year while the 5-year average is 84 percent. Peanuts planted in Georgia were at 92 percent, which compares to 91 percent this time last year and the 5-year average is 90 percent.
