The Georgia Peanut Commission and fellow members of the Southern Peanut Farmers Federation remind growers that registration is ongoing for the annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference, scheduled for July 21-23 at the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, Florida.
The three-day event provides farmers from Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi a chance to obtain timely information about peanut-related issues, says Ken Barton, executive director of the Florida Peanut Producers Association.
“Our general sessions are extremely important. Our first one will be dealing with school nutrition and how important it is. We all know in the peanut industry that it’s extremely important to keep peanut butter on the breakfast and lunch menus of our nation’s schools. We’ve got some really good presenters in that session talking about how the industry’s doing that and what USDA is doing to help it,” Barton said. “Our next session is dealing with something that every farmer deals with, and it’s Ag labor. It’s getting more and more difficult to find Ag labor in general, not qualified labor but just labor in general. We’ve got a labor there that should hopefully open up some avenues for some ideas and at least some options for farmers to look into.”
“These sessions are enjoyable, very informative. We just encourage farmers to make plans to attend.”Click here to register online. Online registration is available through June 30.
