The 2022 cotton and peanut crop continues to be planted, and in most areas is basically on par with the averages. USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey notes cotton planting is right on schedule.
And Rippey says peanut planting in the Southeast is doing fine.
In Alabama, corn planted was at 87 percent, which compares to 95 percent last year and the 5-year average is 93 percent. Corn emerged was at 76 percent, which compares to 87 percent last year and the 5-year average is 82 percent. Cotton planted is now at 26 percent. Last year at this time it was at 26 percent while the 5-year average is 35 percent. Peanuts planted in Alabama were at 22 percent. That compares to 26 percent this time last year while the 5-year average is 29 percent.
In Florida, cotton planting is now at 10 percent. That compares to 15 percent last year while the 5-year average is 17 percent. Peanut planting, as of this past Sunday, was at 35 percent, which compares to 35 percent last year and the 5-year average is 37 percent.
In Georgia, corn planted as of this past Sunday was at 96 percent, which compares to 95 percent last year and the 5-year average is 96 percent. Corn emerged was at 90 percent, which compares to 88 percent last year and the 5-year average is 92 percent.
Cotton planting is now at 22 percent. That compares to 21 percent last year while the 5-year average is 25 percent. Peanuts planted in Georgia were are 28 percent, which compares to 20 percent this time last year and the 5-year average is 28 percent.
