Congressman David Scott of Georgia’s 13th district is joining the Rodale Institute, local farmers, researchers, and business owners in an event May 4 that highlights the role of regenerative organic agriculture. Chairman Scott and stakeholders will discuss the research being conducted in Georgia and its prospective uses for farmers, the supply chain, and the climate. Rodale Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to growing the organic movement through research, farmer training, and consumer education. Rodale Institute has its headquarters in Pennsylvania, and three regional centers – one each in Chattahoochee Hills, along with Marion, Iowa, and Camarillo, California. According to the USDA, the Southern states saw the highest growth in organic farming in the U.S. from 2011-2016, making Georgia a hotspot for organic expansion. From their site at Many Fold Farm, Rodale Institute is studying the effects of cover crops on soil nutrients and focusing on organic vegetable production in Southern soils and climates. Representative Scott is the chair of the House Agriculture Committee.
