The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released their monthly Cattle on Feed report Friday, and it shows cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S. or feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.2 million head on September 1. That is 1 percent below September 1, 2020, but the second highest September inventory since the series began in 1996.
But one number in the report may have given some analysts a mild surprise. Gary Crawford has the story.
Also in the report, USDA notes marketing’s of fed cattle during August totaled 1.89 million head, slightly below 2020.
