While cotton harvest continues to lag a bit across the Southeast, USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey says the national harvest pace is ahead of average.
USDA notes 96% of the nation’s peanut crop had been harvested as of this past Sunday. With harvest winding down for most crops, Rippey says this is the last crop progress report for 2020.
In Alabama, cotton harvest was 89% complete, while last year it was at 93%, and the 5-year average is 86%. As for peanuts, 98% had been harvested which compares to 98% last year, and the 5-year average is 96%.
In Florida, cotton harvest was only 70% complete, while last year it was at 90%, and the 5-year average is 78%. Peanut harvest is considered complete in the state.
In Georgia, cotton harvested was at 80%, which compares to 88% last year, and the 5-year average is 82%. As for peanuts, 98% had been harvested, which compares to 100% last year, and the 5-year average is 98%.
