Efforts continue across the Southeast to move the cotton and peanut harvests along. USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey has the latest look at cotton harvest activity.
But Rippey says the pace of the peanut harvest is still behind the five-year average.
In Alabama, cotton harvest was 71% complete, while last year it was at 84% and the 5-year average of 77%. As for the peanut harvest, 97% had been dug, which compares to 98% last year; 91% had been harvested which compares to 95% last year and the 5-year average of 90%.
In Florida, cotton harvest was only 36% complete, while last year it was at 70% and the 5-year average of 56%. As for the peanut harvest, it is about to wrap up as 98% percent had been harvested, which compares to 100% last year and the 5-year average of 99%.
In Georgia, cotton harvested was at 61%, which compares to 78% last year and the 5-year average of 70%. As for the peanut harvest, 96% had been dug which compares to 99% last year and the 5-year average of 98%. Peanuts harvested were at 86%, which compares to 95% last year and the 5-year average of 91%.
