Update Your BQA Certification

Clint Thompson Beef

Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) is a national program that raises consumer confidence by offering proper management techniques and a commitment to quality within every segment of the beef industry. A study from Colorado State University measured the monetary value of having BQA certification on beef operations. Research was conducted to determine how a BQA Certification listing affected the sale price of beef calves and feeder cattle marketed through video auctions. The study resulted in a premium of $16.80 per head or an estimated $2.71/cwt.

Josh White, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) executive director of producer education and sustainability, encourages cattle producers to enhance their education.

“If you have some downtime with travel restrictions and other things that you want to commit to learning, I would always recommend going to update your BQA certification status by going online to bqa.org. We launched a brand new set of modules in February, so if you’re more than a year or two out, for sure go ahead and re-up. That will be good for three years.”

Many cattle producers have taken advantage of the interactive online BQA training, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. White said there are various modules available for producers to take part in. You can see a recording of the recent BQA Producer Forum webinar that was hosted on August 6th, and learn about recent program achievements and upcoming developments.
