Cotton and Peanut Crop Update

Both the cotton and peanut crops continue to develop well, as across the nation the cotton crop setting bolls is pretty much on par with the 5-year average. Nearly all of the U.S. peanut crop is now pegging in the upper 90% range.

In Alabama, 93% of the crop was setting bolls, which compares to 91% last year. The five-year average is 92%. Six percent of the bolls were open, which compares to 9% last year and he five-year average of 11%. Ninety-nine percent of the peanut crop was pegging, which compares to 100% last year and the 5-year average of 96%.

In Florida, 89% of the cotton crop was setting bolls, which compares to 89% last year and the five-year average of 83%. Twelve percent of the bolls were open, which compares to 6% last year and the five-year average of 9%. Ninety-seven percent of the peanut crop was pegging, which compares to 98% last year and the 5-year average of 98%.

In Georgia, 92% of the cotton crop was setting bolls, which compares to 93% last year and the five-year average of 92%. Seven percent of the bolls were open, which compares to 18% last year and the five-year average of 10%. Ninety-nine percent of the peanut crop was pegging, which compares to 100 % last year and the 5-year average of 100%.
