The condition numbers for the 2020 cotton crop are down this week compared to this time last year. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says the crop is rated considerably lower than last year.

In Alabama, 77% of the cotton crop was squaring, which compares to 80% last year and the five-year average of 78%. Of the crop, 25% were setting bolls, which compares to 28% last year and the five-year average of 32%. For the peanut crop, 75% was pegging, which compares to 77% last year and the 5-year average of 65%.
In Florida, 53% of the cotton crop was squaring, which compares to 67% last year and the five-year average of 58%. Of the crop, 28% was setting bolls, which compares to 19% last year and the five-year average of 13%. For the peanut crop, 70% was pegging, which compares to 70% last year and the 5-year average of 71%.
In Georgia, 79% of the cotton crop was squaring, which compares to 77% last year and the five-year average of 77%. Of the crop, 34% was setting bolls, which compares to 39% last year and the five-year average of 34%. For the peanut crop, 82% was pegging, which compares to 79% last year and the 5-year average of 75%.
