This week, representatives of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) were on hand when details of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) were announced at the White House. NCBA President and Florida cattle producer Marty Smith discusses joining President Trump for the CFAP rollout.

Livestock eligible for CFAP does include cattle, and Smith explains what producers who are eligible can sign up for.

The total payment will be calculated using the sum of the producer’s number of livestock sold between January 15 and April 15, 2020, multiplied by the payment rates per head, and the highest inventory number of livestock between April 16 and May 14, 2020, multiplied by the payment rate per head.

Smith said America’s cattle producers have been hit very hard economically by this pandemic, so they are pleased this relief is one step closer to reaching the producers who need it. But he notes this is just one step and much more needs to be done.

NCBA reminds producers that beginning May 26, USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will start accepting applications for CFAP.
