According to new numbers from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), last week was another good week for cotton planting, while progress for peanut planting has been slow. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says cotton planting progress is slightly ahead of average.
But Rippey says there has been slow planting progress for peanuts.
In Alabama, 63% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 65% last year; 60% is the 5-year average. As for the peanut crop, 55% has been planted, which compares to 56% last year. The 5-year average is 49%.
In Florida, 38% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 42% last year; 35% is the 5-year average. As for the peanut crop, 68% has been planted, which compares to 67% last year. The 5-year average is 61%.
In Georgia, 41% of the cotton crop has been planted, which compares to 56% last year; 48% is the 5-year average. As for the peanut crop, 48% has been planted, which compares to 63% last year. The 5-year average is 57%.
