Last week during a White House signing ceremony, it was announced an agreement had been reached to establish a duty-free quota for high-quality American beef in the European Union (EU). The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) said once implemented, the annual quota will increase from 18,500 metric tons in year one to 35,000 metric tons in year seven. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Senior Director of International Trade and Market Access, Kent Bacus, discusses what the challenge has been to better access to the EU for American-produced beef.
