The condition ratings for the nation’s cotton crop held basically steady this past week. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey has the latest numbers.
45% of the nation’s cotton crop was setting bolls as of this past Sunday.
And Rippey notes the nation’s peanut crop saw just a slight drop this past week.
In Alabama, 92 percent of the cotton is squaring, that compares to only 88 percent this time last year. 69 percent is setting bolls. 94 percent of the peanut crop is pegging, which compares to only 89 percent last year at this time.
In Florida, 91 percent of the cotton is squaring, that compares to only 86 percent this time last year. 64 percent is setting bolls. 92 percent of the peanut crop is pegging, which compares to only 84 percent last year at this time.
In Georgia, 95 percent of the cotton is squaring, that compares to 92 percent this time last year. 72 percent is setting bolls. 96 percent of the peanut crop is pegging, which compares to 93 percent last year at this time.
