Cathy Isom tells you why you should get to know one of the world’s most healthiest fruits this month. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Celebrating National Pomegranate Month
Pomegranates date back to ancient civilizations and are also featured in ancient Egyptian mythology and art. Today, we enjoy pomegranates in a wide variety of dishes and drinks, mostly for the taste – but also for their incredible health benefits.
November is National Pomegranate Month! Research shows they are among the healthiest fruits in the world because of their wide range of beneficial plant compounds that other foods do not contain. They are packed with important nutrients: such as fiber, protein, vitamins C and K, folate, and potassium. They are known for anti-inflammatory effects, which means they can mediate diseases and conditions like cancer, heart disease, type 2, Alzheimer’s, and even obesity. Regular consumption of pomegranate juice has been shown to lower blood pressure levels in as little as two weeks.
Pomegranates may even help you exercise. Studies show intake of pomegranates increases blood flow which can help you perform better in a workout.
