Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia, Oct. 16 with native Georgian and Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.

It’s been a busy opening day of the 2018 Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia. Various folks from across the Southeast have been on hand, and that includes Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. But he was joined by special guest, Vice President Mike Pence. The two were here in the Southeast touring some of the agricultural areas damaged by Hurricane Michael. Both spoke during the annual Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year luncheon.

During that luncheon Kevin Yon, a purebred Angus beef cattle producer and a leader in beef cattle and Angus breed organizations, was announced this year’s winner. To learn more about Yon click here.

Pence, Perdue Promise Help Following Hurricane Michael

Vice President Mike Pence encouraged attendees and promised continued aid for farmers affected by Hurricane Michael during the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia, Oct. 16.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we have taken and will continue to take decisive action to address the aftermath of Hurricane Michael,” Pence said. “I know the strength and faith and resilience of the people of agriculture. We will recover from lost crops and rebuild communities.”

During the expo, Alabama Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell discussed issues affecting the state’s farmers in Michael’s wake with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.

“I’m grateful for the chance to share with Secretary Perdue the struggles our Wiregrass farmers are facing,” Parnell said. “Florida and Georgia took the brunt of the storm, but communities and families in Alabama are hurting as well. We’re working with this administration and elected officials to help farmers recover and receive aid as quickly as possible.”

Pence encouraged farmers to visit local Farm Service Agency offices for assistance or access the disaster assistance recovery tool at Farmers.gov. The vice president said the Trump administration is working to give farmers “the support you need on the timelines you deserve.”
