Everett Griner talks about field runoff problems continuing in today’s Agri View. Everett tells us about the efforts of a group of farmers to try to better this situation.
The Fight with Field Runoff
You know it takes rain to grow a crop. When it rains it washes the fertilizer, weed killer, and insecticides off of the field into the nearby ditches and small creeks which carry it to other streams, and ultimately, to a place it should not be. This is not good.
A new effort to reduce this runoff is being conducted by a large group of farmers throughout the midwest. There is a lot of concern that their efforts will have little impact. Just as much as it takes rain to grow a crop. It also takes fertilizer and chemicals.
So, how can you stop it? I don’t think you can. Maybe the effort of these farmers will lead to a new control method. If not, the only thing that will work is different chemicals. Time will tell.
The effort will continue however. Those farmers are working hard. So, we will see.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
