Cathy Isom has us celebrating a vegetable that’s also known as one of the world’s healthiest foods. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Celebrating National Celery Month
March is National Celery Month. And if you’re not aware of just what this hearty vegetable can do for you, this is the month to find out.
Celery is high in water content and dietary fiber but low in calories. One stalk is about 6 calories so it’s a guiltless, crunchy snack that can be enjoyed any time of day. And, with numbers of ways to enjoy it. Celery is also an excellent source of antioxidants and beneficial enzymes, in addition to vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, folate and vitamin B6.
Benefits of celery include weight loss, relief from high cholesterol levels and arthritis pain. Celery also helps to detoxify the body and reduce high blood pressure.
Why wouldn’t you want to add it to your daily diet? If you don’t want it plain, add a little peanut butter, cream cheese and cranberries, or dipped in ranch or low-fat dressings. It’s also a key ingredient in soups and stuffings, salads, casseroles, and so much more.
